Title: Builds in progress...
Post by: Jono52steyn on October 06, 2013, 08:46:53 AM
Hey Guys, I see that there are quite a few members who have joined over the last six months or so.. I am busy with a 1970 Fiat 850 EV conversion and was wondering if anyone else was busy with a build as well. I am at the beginning stages myself, loads if research, got my donor car about 6 weeks ago and am sourcing all the stuff I need. Just got myself a great forklift motor which is on the way up from the cape, reconditioning the fiat gearbox. Next thing is to make up the adaptor and start speaking to guys about making/buying/finding a controller... I look forward to hearing if any of you are busy with a build.. Not sure if I can post pics on this post thing of mine but I would be keen to see your builds as well. Cheers

Received the 48v motor from the cape and assembled all the clutch parts... Next is the adapter plate to get the unit working..

Hi

I am busy with an EV project, I have started the other way around and have purchased a motor and controller first, and am now looking for a donor vehicle. My plan is to use the vehicle daily to commute to town and back, so I want it to be comfortable and in good condition. After spending all the cash on the project I would like to drive it for at least 10 years.

It's nice to see some activity on the forum.

Hi
We have now completed two EV conversions in Cape Town.
We have stayed with similar designs and donor vehicles so that there is a commonality for spares and knowledge.
The first has done about 3000 km since being on the road just after Xmas 2013
The second about 400 km in the last 3 weeks

Hi
I am busy with a build in East London. It would be great to get in touch via email and perhaps share some some ideas and resources.
What is the final weight and range of your conversion. looks like a Golf 1. Very Nice.
I am doing a medium sized vehicle. Trying to cap the final weight at 1500km.

You can mail me at [email protected] if like.

Regards

Russell

Hi

I have started my Conversion.  I found an Alfa 156 with a blown engine. So far have stripped the car down, and removed most of the unneeded components. I had a coupler coupler made and recently got my adaptor plate back from Local Engineering Works. I am just waiting for 2 plates that I made that will go undr the engine mounts to be galvanied, and I should have the motor in ny the end of next week.

Will post some pics and a video

Just looking around this forum, there seems to be much interest in EV conversions - also one of my passions!

What motors are you guys currently using - it looks like DC from the pics?

Where can I get hold of decent AC motors and controllers?

Hi all - I have 2 sets of Golden Motors AC motor and controller combos to offer for sale. The smaller one is a 5kW (nominal) and 10kW (peak) unit with a square wave controller and the larger one is a 10kW (nominal) and 20kW (peak) unit with a full wave, field-orientated type controller featuring high Starting torque and quiet operation
