Title: Where to start ??
Post by: dalkill on August 04, 2014, 12:18:42 PM
Hi

I have been looking at alternative 'fuels' for the last couple of years now.
And with us staring R15 / lt soon, I again on this hunt.

At one point i was looking at biodiesel and also LGP gas... which i went with in the end.
Problem with lpg is that is was hybrid vehicle running fuel and LPG, and there is only one LPG fillup station in CT mon - fri 8 - 5... so you can imagine how frustrating this was... plus capital layout of R6000 .. ah well

Biodiesel, was good option... but the horror stories of engines seizing up etc.. also the availability of WVO was becoming a problem in CT. All restaurants / fast food outlets i approached had contract with their oil supplier to buy back the oil.

EV was the best choice but the availability of motors, batteries etc just put me off...
I'm glad to see there are other in SA that has done it...

Would someone be able to give and estimated cost that a ev conversion would be... considering the nissan leave comes in at R446K, well, that is alot of drving back and fro to work i have to do to to make up that kind of cash.

Hi

I have to use GeoGebra to create some fractals. However I have never worked with GeoGebra before, and I need pointers on where to start.

Can someone help? Thanks a lot

I am new to this whole concept of EV, however with the current exchange rate, price of oil, and our current Eskom situation, the whole picture seems to be doomed from the start.

In saying so, I do believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and am pretty sure that its not a train!!  We have been dependent on oil for to long and need to look at alternative sources.  With Eskom giving us load shedding, many people invested in gen set, and other forms of lighting.  I personally converted my house to run on 12v led strip lighting.  The prices of these lights have decrease over the past year.

Having said this, once we invest in EV and the numbers grow, cost will decrease (unless controlled by a monopoly).  As for the charging of the batteries, next time you visit PE, try and count the number of wind turbines in Cape road alone! We need to become less reliant on services supplied.

Yes it is possible! My house runs totally independent from Eskom power. The geyser is solar, the stove is gas and the rest is on solar panels, batteries and inverters. My electricity account is zero. The borehole runs from solar energy, so the water account is also zero. The monthly saving is in the order of R1700. That is approximately a saving of R100000 in 5 years, which is about the same as the DIY cost of the installation. The EV is now also charged from solar energy, so we save some fuel cost as well....
