The original utility battery of the vehicle has been retained, but due to the additional load for the electric power steering and the fact that there is no alternator any more, an additional battery has been added to provide sufficient battery capacity.

These two batteries are connected in series and are both simultaneously charged with a normal 12V 6A battery charger. This charger is switched on and off from the main charger which controls the charging of all batteries in the vehicle.
